Unique in the world! – In Martinique by alwego
DID YOU KNOW?
AOC RUM:
Unique in the world!
Whether white, aged in oak barrels, or mature, Martinique rum is produced according to a specific tradition that guarantees its "AOC rum" quality. A unique case. A label obtained in 1996 that is a source of pride for producers, wine merchants, collectors, and delights consumers and visitors worldwide.
A unique rum-producing region, Martinique produces more than 13 million bottles per year. Half goes to mainland France, a quarter goes to the European Union, and the last quarter is consumed locally throughout the year, on all occasions, throughout the day and sometimes even in the morning (beware of the "take-off").
Above all, the distilleries housed in traditional homes are veritable miniature museums, perfect for exploring. No need for an audio guide here; you'll have to rely on the cellar master (and his palate). He'll guide you blindfolded through the aromas, the barrels, the vintages, the years, and the exceptional harvests. A rum museum project, similar to the Cité du Vin in Bordeaux, will soon complete the picture and enhance the experience for rum enthusiasts.
Excessive alcohol consumption is dangerous for your health. Drink responsibly.
Contrary to popular belief, Guadeloupe does not have a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) for rum. The sole reason for this is that Guadeloupe rum is produced using the so-called "traditional" method, that is, from bagasse.
Martinique rum (AOC Rhum Martinique) is made from pure sugarcane juice.
